Meet the Surgeons

Two bariatric surgeons practice and participate in all the surgical procedures for obesity, assisted by general surgeons. The coordinating surgeon of the Obesity Clinic is Dr. José Pablo Vélez. Teaming up with Dr. Vélez is Dr. Rafael H. Arias, also a bariatric surgeon. Both of them are members of the American Society for Bariatric Surgeons, a scientific association that involves bariatric surgeons who follow high quality standards. The bariatric surgeons have the collaboration of a group of four general surgeons that assist them during the procedures and make up the remaining surgical team. Drs. Vélez and Arias have had advanced laparoscopic training and bariatric laparoscopic surgery instruction in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
